Longwood Gardens West Conservatory
Kennett Square, PA | Weiss/Manfredi
In the new West Conservatory, discrete, color tunable lighting prioritizes subtle illumination of the landscaping over direct lighting of pathways, maintaining the minimal, natural quality of the landscape. One key goal of the overall campus lighting was to create soft transitions between lighter and darker exterior spaces, through the use of strategic tree uplighting, façade lighting and well shielded, concealed pole light sources. It was paramount that the general lighting not detract from the fountain lighting shows. TDA closely collaborated with lighting manufacturers, modifying their products to enhance glare control.
