High Line Moynihan Connector

New York, NY | SOM - Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill | Field Operations

Opened to the public in the summer of 2023, the Moynihan Connector is part of a larger Masterplan to connect the Highline to other key New York City features and access points. The extension is comprised of two distinct bridges: the first a 340-ft long planter bed supported by a weathering steel structure and the second a 260-ft long timber bridge created of glue laminated wood beams that were assembled off-site and dropped into place. The lighting supports the contrast in these differing experiences by focusing light down to the green edges to guide pedestrians along the corten pathway while softly uplighting the warm timber material of the other, drawing the focus up to the impressive canopy structure and exposed connections.
