Knickerbocker Hotel
New York, NY | Gabellini Sheppard Associates
The exterior LED façade lighting for this landmarked building in Times Square, NY, was carefully placed to emphasize the cornices even during the day. A layer of continuous light at the very top of the roof completes the lacy affect. The retail bays at street level are flanked by decorative sconces and the second floor "green " layer is defined by linear grazing light. The vaulted ceiling in the cafe shimmers from uplight while integrated linear niche lighting balances the other side. The restaurant, layered with indirect cove lighting and pinholes for sparkle, feels luminous for breakfast. The lighting in the guest rooms is varied and unique to each room type, with ambient light provided by indirect cove lighting, with lamps for the task light layer. Green walls, grazed with light frame the entry to the bar. Accent lighting at the solid marble bar and cove light at the textured glass back bar combine to create a very special feature.
