Access to natural daylight is a key component in the central “Beehive”, where students are most likely to study between classes or congregate for creative collaboration throughout the course of the day. LED accent lights mounted in continuous track are integrated into the ceiling to provide general lighting throughout while a detailed pipe grid around the perimeter walkways hosts supplementary theatrical lighting for special events. Adjacent spaces are illuminated by linear lensed LED pendants that meet the high light levels needed for detailed tasks and fabrication. The Media Lab and black box theater open up to the Beehive to expand the performance spaces. These transformative spaces use surface mounted LED accent lights and are supplemented with work lights for production needs. The gallery incorporates motorized track heads with modifiable optics to assist with quick changeovers for rotating exhibits and installations.

The proscenium is composed of sinuous wood paneling that brings warmth into the space as it winds its way upwards to conceal the catwalk and lighting equipment above the audience. The custom concrete panelized walls, designed to look like curtains, are dramatically featured with linear LED grazers that discreetly mount in architectural pockets at the ceilings and in the floor. In the evening, the main entrance comes alive and entices visitors when the decorative glass marquee lights are energized. A warm glow created by the Beehive emanates from the corners of the building to help connect various paths throughout the campus. The upper terrace outside the main event space is gently uplit by in-grade adjustable LEDs, acting as a beacon that can be seen from all of the campus as well as parts of the city below.
