Knoll Flagship: Offices, Showroom, and Shop

New York, NY | ARO: Architecture Research Office

Multiple lighting solutions, all integrated and concealed, create an inviting balance of glow and accent lighting at the Knoll history timeline for visitors entering the showroom. Small profile T5HO indirect pendants provide ambient illumination that blends with daylight while small cylindrical spotlights that bookend each row of pendants highlight the objects below; small aperture lensed fixtures uniformly wash the textile display. A quiet grid of small aperture flush trim downlights and wallwashers illuminate the low-height ceiling space. Glowing fixtures with diaphanous lenses and perimeter wall grazing balance the lack of daylight in the rear spaces.

Narrow beam LED grazers concealed in the slot highlight the felt wrapper for the stair and also illuminate the stair treads In the small offices, LED grazers in the perimeter slot highlight the rear felt walls and also provide ambient light in the space; additional small aperture downlights provide supplemental lighting

Glare-free indirect lighting provides high visual comfort at the workstations The indirect lighting at the workstations blends well with the daylight and minimizes contrast issues with the window brightness. The low height ceiling in the core is minimally punctured with a quiet grid of downlights and wallwashers illuminating the flexible work spaces and furniture display. A residential quality feel is achieved at the core of the executive floor while maintaining the luminous glow along the perimeter.
