Skyhouse

New York, NY | David Hotson Architect | Ghislaine Vinas Interiors

This penthouse apartment unit is a light and airy pied-à-terre with amazing framed views. All-white interiors draw in the natural light while pops of color in the furnishings and art add a layer of playfulness. The lighting concept had to look seamless and beautiful during the day and at night. Backlit LED troughs with white glass fronts were strategically located throughout to provide ambient light. When off they disappear, blending into the walls and ceilings. Dark ceiling reveals, barely 2" in width conceal HVAC vents as well as tiny spotlights for reading or highlighting furniture. Decorative chandeliers over the Dining Room and kitchen tables add a whimsical touch and glow from within. All baths have seamlessly integrated lighting behind mirrors and undershelves. Oftentimes, translucent glass glows from natural light during the day. The stairwell and art wall glows from concealed washes of light from above. Square, flush lensed white glass downlights are used in narrow corridors. Track head are concealed up in the entry skylight well to illuminate the art.
