KJ Ramaz School and Synagogue

New York, NY | FXCollaborative

The lighting design for this new construction Modern Orthodox day school and existing synagogue building creates a bright, uplifting environment throughout the various spaces for congregants and students of all ages. Stained glass windows illuminated from the inside create a street presence. The Synagogue has a multi-scene preset dimming system offering ultimate flexibility to transition between daytime and nighttime services and events. The sanctuary was given new life through the use of all new LED downlights and accent lights. The bema is aglow from accent lighting on the marble wall and a soft cove light around the Central stained glass window. The Synagogue has a multi-scene preset dimming system offering ultimate flexibility to transition between daytime and nighttime services and events.

The Chapel with its dark blue floating "sky" ceiling, provides a unique, contemplative environment. Classrooms are brightly lit with lensed linear light fixtures which effectively illuminate the walls and working task planes for a wide variety of activities. The fresh, vibrant lobby space, illuminated with flush lensed fixtures with microprismatic lenses, is the main circulation hub in the building and also an important centralized meeting space for families and congregants. Other project spaces included two large event spaces and a gymnasium.
