Public Hotel Chicago
Chicago, IL | Ian Schrager Company
TDA collaborated with Yabu Pushelburg and Ian Schrager Company to reimagine the lighting for all the public spaces, including the restaurant and bars of the only Public Hotel in Chicago. Dramatic indirect coves around full height mirrors and floor uplights create a glamourous ambience in the main lobby. Pinholes and cylinder accent lights highlight art and furniture and decorative lamps provide the necessary residential layer of light. The Main bar has a dramatic, golden backlit resin bottle display wall with bottle glass “windows” on either side. A field of internally and externally illuminated resin globes in the Pump Room create a mesmerizing affect recalling the glamour of a 1940’s supper club. Uplighting and downlighting at the green benches adds a pop of contrasting color.
The silver-leaf lined bar niche anchors one end of the large space. The bar glows from counter and internal shelf lighting, and additional spotlighting concealed around the niche frame. The entry vestibule, not visible in these images, includes a cluster of various style and scale crystal chandeliers hung randomly at various heights.
