To meet the client’s expectations of revolutionary technology usage within their workspace, an indirect lighting strategy with the ability to track the subtle shifts of natural light throughout the day was conceptualized. Each coffer in the waffle-slab ceiling was uplit with a technologically advanced, retrofit PAR38 LED lamp which had the ability to create countless dynamic effects. These subtle shifts in color aided in regulating circadian rhythms and promoted the general wellbeing of employees. Over 10,000 lamps were bundled into groups of 4, creating a singular gesture that was propagated throughout the two levels. Each grouping was controlled wirelessly through a complex, automated control system.

A DMX control system provided flexibility and wireless communication to each zone of lamps through an area network. The system was automated to run through a circadian rhythm creating a dynamic atmosphere and positively influencing the productivity of employees. The color temperature of the lamps begins at 2700K in the mornings, subtly shifts to 4000K at noon and gradually warms back down again in the evening. The overall experience is enriched with the ability to override the system to incorporate color and alternate programs for special events.

The open office space was interrupted by individual conference room “huddles”. Each huddle was lit from above using direct linear LED fixtures that backlight the polycarbonate perimeter panels providing ambient light to each room. The dynamic white LEDs above the huddles tie back into the master control system, allowing for all fixtures to match in color temperature. The color temperatures throughout the office were programmed through careful computer analysis using a range of DMX values and rates and then verified through observation. Override capabilities allow the client limitless possibilities in programming creative dynamic scenes using any color of the spectrum.
